Florian Thienpont is an organic winemaker managing 22 hectares of vineyards in the Francs appellation at Saint-Cibard, very close to Saint-Emilion and Pomérol, France. Florian has chosen EDAMS for the automation and climate management of his mobile poultry houses. He shares his experience and explains how it has changed his day-to-day work.
A System Designed for the Needs of Viticulture and Pastoral Farming
Using chickens as natural crop auxiliaries in the vineyards requires mobile poultry houses which can be moved from one plot to another. This necessitates the need for a stand-alone system, without access to the electrical grid or a mains water supply.
EDAMS provides Florian with a solution adapted to these specific requirements. The sliding access doors and lighting operate autonomously, powered by solar panels and batteries.
Greater Efficiency and Comfort Every Day
The system operates according to a bespoke schedule, with the coop doors opening automatically in the morning and closing in the evening. The programme can be tailored to let the chickens out at first light, helping target specific vineyard pests such as grape berry moths.
This automation eliminates the need for daily trips to the poultry houses, including at weekends. The result, greater peace of mind and more freedom, allowing Florian to focus his core business.
